I won’t lie, I’m not a huge fan of the Hatchet series… At all. I obviously love horror films, slashers especially… But Hatchet never clicked with me.
Not that Adam Green is a bad writer or director… I just prefer his other films more. Spiral is genius. Hatchet just always missed the mark for some reason. It always had casts I truly enjoyed and the cinematography and gore is top notch but it never fully pulled me in.
With that said, when Hatchet 3 was announced it met me with a resounding “Meh.” I was happy it was continuing because the world needs independent horror that has a budget still – but I figured it would be more of the same.
Well I was both right and wrong.
I decided to watch Hatchet this morning because of the review by my pal over at FreddyInSpace.com he said it was good but not as good as the previous Hatchet films, read his full review to understand what he meant.
Now why would this make me want to see it? Because it WAS different from the other films.
Long story short, its plot went slowly, there wasn’t as many kills – but the cinematography was beautiful, the plot moved forward from the previous two, and just felt more like a complete film than the other two did combined.
I truly liked it, was it perfect? Not even close, but I recommend it hole heartily.
