I love The Goonies — but the thought of a sequel tends to make me afraid of them ruining the love I have for the original. MTV Movies Blog posted an interview with Hobbit-Sized Goonie Sean Astin in which he said
“Steven [Spielberg] and Dick [Donner] and all the powers that be … they really feel like the thing that made the movie strong was that it was about kids, so they really want to make the next movie about kids…the next generation of Goonies. And they’ve had a hard time tackling that”
He also continues on and claims that the sequel is an “absolute certainty”, which leads me to believe that Gandalf told him a little something that we may not know as mortals… we know all of the original Goonies themselves are alive — we’ve seen them in the commentary for the S.E. Disc that came out a few years ago.
Unfortunately Sloth and Mama Fratelli left us a few years ago, Robert Davi and Joey “the pants” Pantoliano are still around and kicking (and frankly HAVE to be involved!), so that leaves us just wondering — will Chris Columbus write? Who will officially direct? Why are we so interested even though we know it will probably suck?
