There’s a new epidemic plaguing our society. It’s not something you can catch or spread to someone else. So, what is this horrible new affliction? EMO!!!! What is Emo, you ask? Cause it really does sound like a disease. Basically, Emo is short for Emotional Rock. The origin of this genre doesn’t really matter. So I’m not going to waste time talking about it. If you want the Wikipedia definition go here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo-core The gist of it is that Emo SUCKS!!! So you’re probably asking, “Who cares? You don’t have to listen to it.” Well, that has been totally true. But now Emo is infecting other types of music. Now, I didn’t care when Emo invaded punk and turned it into punk/pop. I didn’t really mind when every other song on the radio sounded exactly the same. (I have Sirius…more choices.) So, what did piss me off? When someone puts Emo in my Metal. Grant it, Metal is very emotional music. But it’s raw emotion. It’s primitive in nature. Listen to Sepultura and you’ll understand what I mean. But recently bands have been infusing Metal with Emo choruses and Emo singers. When you first here one of these songs, it sounds like a kick-ass metal song. But then those fuckers put some whiny-ass shit in the middle. There’s nothing wrong with mixing screaming and singing. A lot of bands do it well. Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and even Mudvayne (Yeah…they’re kinda metal) make it work. They all have amazing, versatile front men. I just cannot stand when the chorus sounds like a fucking Simple Plan song.
Metal is no place for whining!
Now, I love Shadows Fall, but you guys are partially to blame for this shit! Stevo and I went to a Shadows Fall show a few months ago and both of their opening acts where Emo/Metal or whatever the hell they call themselves. The only thing that saved the opening bands was a killer set by a relatively new and unknown band called Beneath the Sky. I’m sure you hear about them from Stevo or me later. Shadows Fall was amazing!!! They are a true metal band. They don’t need to tour with a band like Autumn to Ashes. If I would have closed my eyes throughout that show I don’t think I could have been able to tell the difference between the two opening bands. I guess my biggest gripe with that is that there are so many good metal bands out there and the crying pussies are getting all of the attention. Just please stay away from my Metal. If you can’t do that, then stay away from my Metal Shows. And most of all stop whining!

Hi! I’m a crying pussy!
I like Emo. I can’t help it. I think there is a 14 year old girl that lives in my soul and forces me to like Dashboard Confessional. I can see where you’re having issues with the emo infusion in metal but I don’t think you have a lot to worry about. When glam threatened to break the spirit of metal monsters they fought back with the loudest most aggressive music I’ve ever heard. I truly believe the black/death metal import in the late 90’s was a cultural backlash to the commercialization of metal in the early 90’s. This emo thing will continue for a while but there will be others who will put out albums that melt your face off.
It’s true… Tommy does indeed have a 14 year old girl in his soul. You should have seen him cry when Dawson’s Creek was cancelled. It was pitiful.
As for glam — least glam was fun and about partying — not crying in a corner.
At least goth people have the balls to kill themsevles after crying in a corner.
well don’t worry…shadows fall will be touring with 3 inches of blood here soon. you have nothing to worry about
but I’m a girl, I can get away listening to emo
